![]() In Arthurian legend, Merlin is famous for ‘having lived time backward’ and being able to see the future as clearly as though it were already past. So here is Dawn of Avalon, the first part of their story. Myrddin (or Merlin) the famous enchanter of King Arthur’s court rather haunted me as well, and I couldn’t stop wondering what Morgan and Merlin might have shared when they were young, before Morgan’s brother Arthur ever famously became King of Britain. And after I’d finished writing the trilogy, she still haunted me. Although Morgan is dead before the action of my stories begin, her voice came to me very clearly as the narrator for the prologues of all three books. (Or Morgan le Fay, as she is commonly known in later versions of the Arthur legends). One of my favorite characters in my Twilight of Avalon trilogy was Isolde’s grandmother, Morgan. My second book, Dark Moon of Avalon, was released Sept 14, and to celebrate I’m so excited to announce that I’m giving away Dawn of Avalon, a freebie short story prequel to Dark Moon. Together, in the sunlight of one day long ago, they saved a kingdom. ![]() She would become Britain’s most storied sorceress-Morgan le Fay.īut before they were legends, they were young. Neglected after his death, Alma-Tadema's paintings are once again admired for their beauty and their remarkable mastery of light, colour and texture. But above all she subjects the paintings to a fresh scrutiny, and reveals that Alma-Tadema, a knowledgeable student of antiquity, repeatedly used literary and archaeological allusions in his paintings to subvert their apparently innocent meaning. In this original and penetrating study, Rosemary Barrow presents an absorbing and often amusing portrait of an exuberant personality who carved out a brilliant career for himself at the heart of London's artistic and cultural Z lite. Most notably of the defects I mention, the last section stands out foremost among them. ![]() Still, I come out adoring it all the more for the way its strengths outweigh the defects to such an extent that those defects are negligible. It is not a book without its faults and now, after years of ignorant adoration for Kay's story, I can fully recognise its weak points. When I was younger, I just gave myself wholly to the story and apparently was so enthralled that I never noticed any flaw with it. Unlike prior readings, I was not so blind to it. I still maintain that it is a little known gem. Not only did I turn the last page with same satisfaction as ever before, I felt as if I came away with a new appreciation and clearer understanding of it. ![]() I confess that my last thorough reading had been nearly six years ago and I was long overdue to renew the memory of it. Rereading Phantom, though I have read it numerous times before, allowed me to view it more critically. However, about a week ago, I found myself possessed with time enough to curl up with a book. I have long-wished to write a review for it, but I felt that, in order to do it justice, I needed to reread it again, a thing for which I have had little time to do. For me, it is the gold-standard of all Phantom retellings, sequels and take-offs. I have praised it in other reviews, using it as a basis of comparison. To anyone who has read my reviews, you are aware of my sincere love of this particular book. ![]() ![]() Neither boy is looking for romance, but sparks fly when they meet-and soon they're inseparable.
